Quitting smoking is the best thing you can do to improve your health so why not try one of the above replacements.
There are a lot more other methods that can help you give up smoking, just ask your doctor.
Whichever you choose, keep positive and good luck.

To list all of them would be too much but here are the main risks other than lung cancer:
Bladder cancer
Cancer of the kidneys
Cancer of the pancreas
Cervical cancer
Cancer of the oesophagus
If thinking of quitting or have already started to, it takes approximately 15 years before the risk of lung cancer drops to the same as that of a non-smoker. Something to remember!

Acupuncture is a commonly used therapy to quit smoking.
The acupuncture needles are hair thin and they are inserted into various parts of the ear.
If needles aren’t for you don’t worry there are plenty more other methods you can try including hypnotherapy.
More herbal remedies come in the form of Lobelia (Lobelia inflata) and St.John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum).
The herb Lobelia is found in most anti smoking products but should only be taken under the supervision of a qualified health practitioner.
The herb St John’s wort is primarily used to combat depression but also helps people stop smoking.

Are you a smoker but thinking of quitting? Here are a few helpful tips:

First you have to figure out what are the reasons for you wanting to stop. Write a list of reasons down on a small piece of paper so you can carry it round with you, and whenever you feel tempted to smoke just refer back to it.
You need to set a final date to stop smoking. Some people like to cut down gradually if so do it before this date but remember to stick to it.
Tell everyone you are trying to stop smoking. This will help you as others will try and not smoke around you as well as family and friends will give you support.
Take one day at a time. Be positive. Now that you are saving money as you are not spending it on cigarettes, treat yourself! Good Luck

We already know what the effects of smoking can do on a fully grown adult. Ardi Rizal’s health is already deteriorating as he can no longer run around and play with other children. His 40-a-day habit has left him struggling to move and now needs constant help.

This article has sparked a lot of uproar and speculation surrounding the parents of Ardi. It makes you think what kind of message are you sending your children?

Surely having a smoking ban in a train station should include the surrounding areas so I don’t have to wear a sodding gas mask just to catch a train.

If they all want to kill themselves with cancer sticks then that’s their problem, not mine.

The think that annoyed me most about this image (other than the cigarette in the womans hand is the paper’s inability to mention the fact hat this woman is obviously a pretty crappy parent. Smoking with a baby is one of the worst ideas ever. Aside from the fact that you can damage just about every growth process the baby goes through plus the fact that you look (just like this woman) like an absolute tool.

It’s normally the sort of thing I’d find quite funny, the fantastic irony and stupidity shown here just makes me wonder how bad this poor little kid’s life is going to be.

..so “Mellisa Williamson” of Bullitt Avenue consider yourself named and shamed.

Anyone who’s ever gone out with anyone who smokes knows all too well about the smell. Smokeless cigarettes are supposed to be the next big thing, they are supposedly a little bit better for you (no tar in these bad boys).

But now matter how much they say they don’t smell, the fact of the matter is that they do.

So with that in mind, i’d like to dispel a couple of other myths:

no second hand smoke. Rubbish. If you happen to be in the same room as someone using these you will be breathing in nicotene.

Odorless. Rubbish. All the ones I have seen used smell like rotting badger meat.

Healthy. Rubbish. Although there is no tar or other carcinogens other than nicotine, they cirtainly aren’t healthy or good for you. nicotine is a poison.

I’d like to say I haven’t had a smoke since, but there have been the odd days where I’d been drinking, or bored, or depressed where I have just needed to crash a smoke off my housemate.. But I figure that doesn’t really count.

It’s sad when I think that I’ll never quite give up my addition. I’ve been smoking for about 10 years now.. ever since I was a kid really. Even while writing this I would kill for a smoke. I can’t help but wonder if that feeling will ever completely stop.

..at least I’m over the coughing fits now though.

Giving up smoking is tough. But I’m giving it a good go. Went to the shop this morning to buy a paper, used the debit card, computer says no,
How is this possible? I got paid today, I’m nowhere near my limit, my bank seems to think that a few transactions from my card the weekend previous in Lincoln is deemed “suspicious” and blocked my card. Great, just what I need, smoking pangs and no Guardian.

Ah well things to keep me busy, replace one addiction with another, decided that computer consoles are an ex smokers godsend, I’m playing anything, even games designed for 6 year olds, anything to keep my mind off smoking. It works too. I would recommend it, drinking so much tea as well, tea is good.

Keep positive, I used to be such Athlete, waking up at 6am to put a couple of hours training in on the mountain bike before school, these days the only exorcise I get is a five a side football match once a week… and I’m the goal keeper.

Anyway that’s the update for today, still holding out.
